Is it true that in the world of independent music that marketing is considered a sell-out? Well, whether that is a stereotype or completely true, it does not matter because it is not a sell-out, at all! If you are an Indie musician who wants to taking an anti-corporate stance or huge labels in general leave a bad taste in your mouth you can still market in the music industry with out being left with the feeling of selling out. There are other music contacts to be made and other ways of getting your music heard with out going corporate.

The fact is, there are ways to build your fan base and amplify people’s interest your independent music – without selling out. If you are an independent music maker, here are a few ways you can do some marketing without selling out to the music industry.

First, you need to put aside your anti-marketing frame of mind and think about what is best for your career in the music industry. Finding ways to reveal your ideas and creations through your sound to more people, which in turn is essentially marketing shows that you believe in what you are creating.

Doesn’t the music you develop deserve to be heard around the world? Of course you think that way unless you only want to play for yourself. Marketing does not have to be a negative word. There are ways to market and advertise your music without “selling out” as independent music artist.

Think of your fans, they are your best promoters and marketers! Marketing isn’t all about dealing with media and big corporations. If you’re not comfortable with dealing with those people, forget about them and focus on your fan base. Have you considered provided them with ways to “spread the word.” They may already be doing just this for you. Fans probably already market for you and they will be your most passionate music contacts and promoters.

So now, you just must increase your fan base’s size and your marketing will increase. See, this is done without the use of those outlets you may despise. What is better than that? What do your fans love about your music? Once you know this, it becomes even easier to find more prospective fans that would also be interested in your music and your message.

Independent music marketing does not have to be corporate nor selling out, now does it? You are sharing what you love with those who love what you do. Use this concept to your advantage. The music industry is all about money and there is money to be made. Take a little piece of the pie without feeling like you are turning your back on your beliefs.

When your private studio has innovative and interactive music teachers resources, you can certainly focus on developing your students’ interests in music. Through these, you can also motivate them to craft music as both their profession and passion. Teaching music can be a difficult task. It requires much time and effort; thus, makes music education more challenging, dynamic and versatile.

Ideally, a music teacher must have these objectives in mind:

• to offer a custom-made and challenging program for his musically-inclined pupils to maximize their music potential;
• to provide a holistic music education through listening, performing (solo and group) and composing skills; and,
• To realize that everyone has such potentials to understand, express and create music.

Effective music teachers have such resources that can really encourage students to attend classes regularly, motivate them to participate and cooperate, and most of all, inspire them to love music. Many music teachers resources are readily available via the Internet. In just a matter of a few clicks, you can learn how to enhance your teaching strategies pertaining to music education.

There are various music teachers resources that can definitely be used as your motivating factors in teaching music to a vast number of students with different personalities, demands, needs and desires. Here is my comprehensive list:

• Cooperative learning. It is an instructional paradigm in which teams of students work on structured tasks such as homework assignments, laboratory experiments, or design projects. It is being administered under conditions that meet five criteria: positive interdependence, individual accountability, face-to-face interaction, appropriate use of collaborative skills, and regular self-assessment of team functioning.

Many studies have shown that when correctly implemented, cooperative learning improves many aspects like information acquisition and retention, higher-level thinking skills, interpersonal and communication skills, and self-confidence. In here, it seeks to foster some benefits from the freedom of individual and collaborative learning.

• Opportunities. It can be an advantage if an enhanced curriculum is made to unleash students’ musical skills and talents. They must be given such chance to perform and compete – be it solo or as a group, representing their school in music-related activities as well as various competitions.

• Exposure. Also, just like opportunities, exposure can be of great help to become more interested. Familiarity and awareness to several music scenes can actually make them look forward to the next musical sessions. They can attend concerts, recitals or band rehearsals. Visiting some professional or conventional recording studios can be fun and exciting ways of learning music while exposing them to the real world.

With all these innovative and effective music teachers resources and strategies, I am so certain that you could meet your academic goals and visions. Good luck and happy teaching!

Primarily, a music teacher’s task lies in the idea of effective and creative communication. Thus, credibility and reliability have always been an issue to academic institutions, their teaching and non-teaching personnel and even the student body.

Music teachers simultaneously motivate, inspire, and support their students through innovative music teachers resources. Whether these resources and tips are from the experiences of other teaching individuals, educators, academes or from the internet, what important is you are able to meet your goals and stay committed to your purpose.

When you make use of effective music teachers resources and tips, you are more likely to gain the interests of your students – encouraging them to love music more. As you become good influences and examples to them, they not just tend to love music as one of their subjects but they also have come to love you as their mentors and icons.

I have here a list of different feedbacks, compliments and even suggestions of the students when a group of music educators have rendered effective music teaching strategies and have executed creative activities.

• The students are able to cultivate their interest in music and realize their potentials through unique and creative activities regarding their music class and its programs.
• Such music teachers resources allow them to learn about other aspects of music which are not covered in a specific course outline, syllabus or private music lessons.
• Music teachers are able to encourage and give them such opportunity and exposure that they truly need to create and perform music creatively and independently yet effectively and promptly.
• Students are able to learn music as well as the significance of academic freedom and independence. Thus, cooperative learning has played a vital role in this manner since they are tasked to work collaboratively with their co-students and meet a common set of objectives.
• Creative activities, which seem unusual and innovative, have brought up fun and excitement among students – making them more interested, hooked and eager to learn new things and eventually apply them in real life.
• The enhanced program for music teaching has been remarked by the students as a way to boost self-confidence, establish camaraderie among classmates, and experience the fun of learning music – all at the same time.
• Such exposure to music technology and other relevant innovations have showcased more talents and have brought out the best in most of the students.

It really pays to regenerate more teaching resources and strategies that are more appealing to the kind of students we have in today’s generation. Maximizing resources and efforts, music teachers would then realize that music education could be the most rewarding experience.

The lyric writing side of songwriting is known to create an enormous number of problems for some folks. No matter how hard they try, they are unable to write a single line that they can be pleased with.

In many cases these very same people make phenomenal advancements in writing music and melodies. However they just can’t seem to figure out how to come up with suitable lyrics to match them.

If you are facing such a situation, there’s probably no need to worry. By taking certain appropriate steps you should be able to overcome lyric writing hurdles and write songs that deliver.

(1) Here are some essential ideas for overcoming these hurdles.

1. Collaboration

If you’re very good at writing melodies but can’t seem to write a single line, one solution might be collaboration. Instead of beating your head against the wall for ideas, find someone who is very good at writing lyrics and work together. You may be surprised at the wonders that can emanate from a combination of his excellence at writing lyrics and your brilliance at writing melodies.

2. Lyric writing tools

Perhaps you may be hoping for some other solution. While you don’t mind the idea of collaboration, you want to allow yourself to get better at writing lyrics, instead of leaving it to someone else.

As far as I’m concerned, the importance of laying hold on good songwriting “tools” should never be underestimated. Educate yourself as much as you can. Make use of songwriting books, programs, courses, software, articles or whatever valuable resources that you have at your disposal.

3. Motivation

You’ve probably heard it said a thousand times … Without motivation, you won’t go very far. This also applies to your lyric writing. While the songwriting “tools” outlined above can help you improve, without adequate motivation failure is inevitable.

(2) Here are a few tips to help you generate lyric writing ideas.

1. Use different lyrics to bring the same message across.

Choose a theme which is known to have made a few hits. What message does this theme bring across? Write different lyrics that bring the same message across. A typical example of this is John Denver’s “I’m Leaving on a Jet plane” and Wycliffe Jean’s “Gone till November”. These songs made hits in different eras. Their basic message was similar … Baby, you don’t need to cry because I’ll return.

2. Add a unique twist to a cliché.

Turn on your radio and you will hear clichés being repeated over and over. Using these very same clichés is simply a futile exercise. My suggestion is to add a unique twist to these clichés. This is something I am focusing on more and more.

A typical example of adding a unique twist to a cliché is found in Dianne Warren’s “Unbreak my Heart” made popular by Toni Braxton. The ever popular cliché, “break my heart”, was twisted.

(3) Here are three lyric writing suggestions.

1. Write a song about a particular incident. Your song should tell a story.

2. Write lyrics that have absolutely nothing to do with anything you’ve actually experienced.

3. Get lyric writing ideas from newspapers, magazines, movies, TV and so on.

Overcoming lyric writing hurdles involves a lot of determination, hard work and perseverance on your part. Implement the suggestions presented above and move one step closer to lyric writing success.

The face of music has always been changing, from the days of Mozart to Buddy Holly there has only been one constant factor remaining consistent throughout the centuries, the music industry is a commercial medium. The musical revolutionaries of the 60s might well disagree however even at that point people were buying records and labels were making millions.

This is more true than ever in this day and age, where musical instruments have been replaced by grinding women in bikinis, low riding Cadillacs and more bling than you can shake a stick. The changing face of music is not only in the image and artists but also in the musical equipment used to produce and distribute music.

Musical piracy as it is being called, is dominating the music industry and there are two schools of thought on it. One being that of the music industry and the law who understand the illegal sharing and distribution of music as copyright infringement, the other being the people who believe that music should be free to everyone, however it is not clear how they are suggesting that the Cadillacs and bling are going to be financed.

This has come due to the massive technological advances in the last decade in the field of musical technology. The face of music has changed due to the accessibility of musical production and distribution. You can now at a click access your favourite music legally and free of charge via various video hosting sites and it is a massive form of marketing now.

Production takes place in many a bedroom and have become very accessible to those with very little musical knowledge due to the relatively simple midi based software packages that have saturated the market. These have made music production much more accessible than previously and with many global forums you can share your music and potentially distribute it with great ease.

The digital age has rendered other formats almost obsolete. As the CD killed off the cassette in one foul swoop, CD is now on the edge of extinction being replaced by an array of audio files. The death of CDs has been slower than the predeceasing format, this might be accounted for because the retailers buying from the music industry still need to sell products and there has been no next generation product that can be bought over the counter to replace CDs.

The retailers are encouraging people to buy CDs and then rip them onto their iPod or MP3 players. It is thought that CDs will stick around for a while. The greatest surviving format has to be vinyl which is still massively popular with DJs around the globe. This again is under attack by products such as the Tonium Pacemaker, which is the size of a Nintendo DS, however holds 120gig, about 3000 hours work of music.

Dominic Donaldson is an expert on music technology and contributes to trade publications on the subject.
