I LOVE MUSE!!! as a musician i can appreciate how unbelievably awesome they are! best modern day band out there definately!
I would say they sing a lot about discontent in general… to file it down to just society takes away a lot of their power in songs like Hysteria, Thoughts of a Dying Atheist, Starlight, Hoodoo, etc.

I think Muse uses a lot of differing themes to convey a message of discontent with modern society. MK Ultra was a covert mind control program, and Exogenesis is about repopulating a new world due to destroying the one we’re on now. Then you have the song Resistance, which is fairly obvious too. But I do agree about using elements and themes from 1984 to relay a message about present day events and politics

I sort of found that whole protest quite inspiring really; just the idea that people just having a good time, putting together a peaceful protest but the police still do their best to make it become violent and I find that quite aggravating.I sort of wanted to write a song that summed up that feeling like youve been done over by people youre supposed to trust.”
