we listened to this song in my engligh class today and the brick analogy was confusing to me at first but then my teacher said after she got the abortion he wants to leave her but he can’t becaus he feels obligated to stay with her and he feels that because hes staying with her that she is a brick pulling him down. We listened to this song in our English class. This is about a guy who has a girl he finally loves but she wants to get an abortion but he doesn’t want her to but, he doesn’t want to tell what the woman should do with her body because it’s not his body and he because of that one thing, he wants to break it off because of that one thing.
That’s what my teacher said, but just want to get a better understanding.
I don’t think the brick is literally bringing him down I think the woman, who is carrying the child, sank into depression fast after struggling with the decision to abort the baby. While our narrator is sinking slowly into depression since the realization is setting in on what the two did, i.e. decided to get an abortion. All in all a messed up but good song.

ok what i get from this song is shes having a abortion and she got pregnant by the guy but didnt tell him (the boyfriend) now he knows finally and in his juvenile mind shes a beep or she had a encounter with another guy and hes finding that out as theyr’e going to the clinic on a cold rainy day lol harsh.its one or the other thats just my opinion.
