In it’s very dramatic ending to season 3 of the OC the Leonard Coen song hallelujah seems to capture the emotional undertones of the scene. Ryan takes Marissa in his arms. He tells her that he will need to go get help, but knowing that nothing can be done, she asks him to stay. After a few moments of looking into each other’s eyes, she dies in Ryan’s arms.
The OC has pioneered the creative use of storytelling through song and, in the process, become a showcase for some of the most innovative and original artists in music. Music From The OC such as hallelujah highlights the program’s trend-setting approach to music with songs from an extraordinary variety of artists.
The OC is the story of several wealthy Orange County families and their angst-ridden high school-aged offspring. The series music features a surprisingly fresh group of acts, and some of the best choices of the bunch were compiled into a number of album mixes which include Hallelujah the oc version.
Hallelujah the oc version was sung by Rufus Wainwright.
Listening to hallelujah on the oc soundtrack can still be a wonderful experience. You don’t need the context of the show to make it meaningful and very listenable.
Here’s the verse that was sung on the show:
(Yeah but) Baby I’ve been here before
I’ve seen this room and I’ve walked this floor,
(You know) I used to live alone before I knew ya
And I’ve seen your flag on the marble arch
and love is not a victory march
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah…
Well there was a time when you let me know
What’s really going on below
But now you never show that to me do ya
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
